The incident happened on Thursday when the unidentified man stood naked on the main altar of St. Peter’s Basilica.

The cathedral’s high priest, Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, and other priests and faithful presided over a prayer service known as the Penance to cleanse the holy table.
The service is required by a set of religious codes known as canon law and includes blessing altars with holy water.
Mr Gambetti condemned the naked man, saying he had made an “inappropriate and truly regrettable gesture” to draw attention to victims of the war.
According to Vatican News, the Pole was handed over to Italian police, who issued a deportation order to leave Italy.
A Vatican source said the man had injured himself on his nails during the incident.
The Vatican has been mired in riots recently, with a man storming the gates last month. After the incident, he was taken to the hospital for psychiatric treatment.
Climate protesters who glued their hands to a statue in the Vatican Museum last year are now on trial for serious damage.
