DUBAI – UAE: The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC) has announced the launch of an ongoing educational outreach programme, the Space Science Education Programme. This initiative has fostered a rich collaboration with schools, encouraging the participation of students across the UAE. Aimed at broadening understanding and appreciation of space science, the program has been carefully designed to inspire a new generation of space enthusiasts within the UAE student community.
The “Microorganisms in Space” workshop with Sultan AlNeyadi was the inaugural session of the UAE Astronaut Program (UAEAP) as part of its second mission. The symposium featured exciting explorations of microbes in space, providing fascinating insights into how tiny life forms behave differently in the unique space environment, sparking interest in the rapidly developing field of astrobiology research interest of. In this hands-on workshop, MBRSC shared the space kit with students and faculty, offering them a unique opportunity to experience and understand the concept in action.

Jumping into the expertise, the workshop also includes a deep dive into astrobiology, introducing students to how organisms, including humans, adapt to the unique conditions of space, the impact of microgravity on biological function, and the challenges and breakthroughs to sustain life in space.
As well as details of the longest Arab space mission in history, students were introduced to MBRSC’s ambitious projects marking milestones in the UAE’s space exploration journey. Students learn about mission objectives, astronaut training, the science experiments performed, and the overall experience of living and working in microgravity.
The initiative further explores AlNeyadi’s science experiments aboard the ISS during his mission, while also including a more general look and in-depth introduction to the ISS.
The UAE Astronaut Program is one of the projects managed by MBRSC under the UAE National Space Program and funded by the ICT Fund of the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), which aims to support research and development in the UAE’s ICT sector to promote the country’s integration into the global arena.
