14 kinds of holidays for UAE federal government employees

Employees of ministries and federal entities are entitled to 14 types of leave.

This is in accordance with Article 76 of Cabinet Resolution No. 48 of 2023 on the Implementation Regulations of Federal Decree No. 49 of 2022 on Human Resources of the Federal Government, which will be implemented in early July.

Learn about these holidays:

1- Annual leave: full-time employees are entitled to annual leave, the total salary is as follows: 30 working days for special grade (B) and above in-service personnel, and (22) working days for the rest.

2- Maternity leave: Full-time employees are entitled to 90 days of paid maternity leave.

3- Parenthood: An employee with a newborn child, regardless of whether he is the father or mother, is entitled to 5 working days of leave within 6 months from the date of birth.

4- Sick leave: The employee is granted sick leave based on the medical report of the official agency, not exceeding 5 consecutive days at a time, and a maximum of 15 days per year. If the specified time is exceeded, the employee’s annual leave days will be deducted from it or no salary will be calculated if there is no balance.

5- Mourning: In the event of the death of any of the employee’s first-degree relatives, the employee is entitled to 5 days of bereavement leave with full pay and 3 days for the employee’s second-degree relatives.

6- Education: A federal entity may, subject to the approval of its President or any person authorized by him, grant study leave to an employee on a full-time or part-time basis, covering only fees, tuition or salary.

7- National Service and Reserves: Employees are entitled to paid leave to perform National Service and Reserves under the current laws of the country.

8- Unpaid leave: A federal entity or any person authorized by it may grant an employee unpaid leave of up to 30 days in a year, provided the employee has serious reasons for granting the leave.

9- Waiting Leave (Aida): A Muslim female employee whose husband dies is entitled to a waiting leave of 4 months and 10 days from the date of death.

10- Hajj: Muslim employees are entitled to 15 days paid leave to perform Hajj once during their service. Combining Hajj leave with annual leave is permitted.

11- Accompanying the patient abroad: The head of the federal agency may grant the employee leave if there is a balance, or without pay if there is no balance, and the leave may not be extended for another period.

12- Accompanying a patient in the country: National employees are granted a one-month special leave to accompany their spouse or one of their parents on the recommendation of the medical institution as follows: the first 15 days are paid and the next 15 days are taken from the employee’s annual leave balance deduct.

13- Full-time representation of the State: The head of a federal entity or any person authorized by him may grant special leave, with pay, to a citizen employee to perform any work or task related to representing the State in the national team, sports or cultural activities, or any other Similar reasons not directly related to work

The federal entity where the employee works, at the request of an official body in the relevant field, for a period of 1 month, which may be extended for a similar period up to a maximum of 6 months.

14- Full-time self-employment: Citizen employees are entitled to self-employment leave according to the mechanisms and conditions stipulated by the Council of Ministers in this regard.
