Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates: The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has denied news reports circulating on social media platforms that federal government employees will change working hours from 1 July 2023.

The authorities confirmed that the implementing regulations of the Law on Human Resources specifically address those introduced from employment models and new types of work, such as part-time, temporary work, flexible work, work in the workplace or telework at home and abroad. It said the “compressed jobs” system was one of a group of job types designed to enhance flexibility and promote achievement in the government work environment.

Earlier reports circulating on social media further indicated that starting July 1, some government employees may in some cases be able to complete their required weekly work hours over a four-day period — no more than 10 hours per day or Weekly work does not exceed 40 hours. This requires the consent of both the employee and the employer.
An employee who works 10 hours per day and 4 days will be classified as a compressed work week.
Under such circumstances, employees have a three-day weekend, the report said.
