“Ma’an” launched the eighth social incubator project

ABU DHABI – Social Contribution Authority – Ma’an has launched the 8th edition of its social incubator program ‘Youth for Climate Action’ to support social impact start-ups to develop solutions to environmental challenges.

Align internationally with Goal 13 – UN Sustainable Development Goals on climate change and locally with the Vision of the Year of Sustainable Development, Net Zero Emissions in the UAE, MENA’s first national action to achieve Net Zero Emissions and The upcoming COP28 UAE is aligned, re-emphasizing Abu Dhabi’s commitment to sustainable innovation.

As part of a three-year partnership to develop Abu Dhabi into a global hub for social innovation, Ma’an and startAD, backed by Tamkeen and based at NYU Abu Dhabi, join forces to offer early-stage entrepreneurs unique opportunities to develop socially impactful start-ups and expand into social enterprises.

Committed to encouraging and supporting new businesses to develop ground-breaking solutions to social, cultural and environmental challenges, the latest batch will focus on increasing youth engagement and their contribution to climate action.

As part of the cohort, MSI will host 10-12 promising startups twice a year and provide them with extensive networking and mentoring resources, creating a dynamic work environment based on collaboration and innovation where teams can thrive .

Salama Al Ameemi, Director General of Ma’an said: “One of the objectives of the eighth phase of the Ma’an Social Incubator is to reduce the per capita environmental impact of the city through municipal and waste management efforts. The UAE’s strategic mission to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 is a No small feat, this is the impact we need to recognize and support our youth as strong advocates and agents of change. Everyone living in the UAE should have access to zero waste infrastructure which will help provide safety , inclusive and sustainable communities.”

Al Ameemi also highlighted the importance of community collaboration for success in the country’s many initiatives, such as the UAE Green Agenda 2030.

She said: “Partnerships are at the heart of what we do in Ma’an and we have over 60 partnerships with government, private and third sector entities. Adopt sustainable practices to accelerate efforts and empower start-ups by deploying ‘green finance’ to create real social impact in the Abu Dhabi community.”

Ma’an’s community-focused ethos and dedicated fundraising and partnership initiatives have had a long-term impact on the Abu Dhabi community through donations of over AED 512 million and the empowerment of more than 70 social start-ups.

Ramesh Jagannathan, Managing Director of startAD, said: “Our long-term partnership with the Maan Social Contribution Authority fulfills our shared mission of making Abu Dhabi the world’s foremost social entrepreneurship capital. Batch 8 applications close on 16 August and selected teams will benefit from a range of tailored opportunities to help them shape the future of their startups, including up to AED 200,000 per team based on one-year milestone achievement Ram’s funds.

Additional assets will include fully bespoke hands-on workshops and training designed to help them understand how to scale their business, access to private and government partners to form partnerships and network with local and global investors, a year of office space at the Maan Office And alumni can enjoy technology discounts, master classes and other benefits.

Ma’an is part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development and supports projects in the education, health, environment and social sectors. Through partnerships with third sector, government and private entities, Ma’an helps to broaden the culture of social engagement, while aiming to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a premier destination to live and work.
