kabul [Afghanistan]June 10 (ANI): A landmine from a past war exploded in Afghanistan’s eastern Ghazni province, killing one person, officials said on Thursday, the Khaama Press reported.

A farmer was killed instantly when an explosive device left over from previous clashes exploded while he was working in his field in Asghar Khil village in Mokar district on Wednesday, the provincial official said.

Three children were killed and another injured in a similar incident in Afghanistan’s Wardak province on Monday.

The children were killed and injured in two separate incidents in Wardak province. The first incident occurred in Sayed Abad on Sunday afternoon when three children discovered a toy-like explosive device.

A provincial official said the device exploded, killing two children and injuring another, Khaama Press reported.

Unexploded bombs from earlier conflicts have been found across the country in recent years, killing and wounding men, women and even children.

Afghanistan, whose four-year-long conflict is riddled with landmines and unexploded bombs from around the world, is killing hundreds of people every month, including children. (Arnie)
