Emirates News Agency – UAE, Turkey form strategic partnership in tourism, aviation

ABU DHABI, 10th June, 2023 (WAM) — The UAE and Turkey have established a solid strategic partnership in the fields of tourism and aviation, with flights and tourist numbers between the two friendly countries increasing.

As part of the bilateral relationship and strategic partnership, the UAE’s national airline has increased its flights to Turkey in recent years as air traffic between the two countries has increased.

The report by the national airline of the UAE affirms the significant contribution of the aviation industry to strengthening economic relations between the UAE and Turkey in recent years.

They also emphasized that aviation is an important lifeline for the tourism and business sectors. They highlighted their success in increasing the number of flights to Turkish destinations to meet growing travel demand. Also, they mention the addition of seasonal flights during the summer.

Etihad Airways
Etihad Airways, the national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, has announced plans to operate 10 weekly flights from Abu Dhabi to Istanbul. Etihad Airways initially launched services to Istanbul in June 2009. Istanbul is one of the most popular destinations for UAE residents seeking a short break. Istanbul’s geographical location makes it a melting pot of cultures, with Eastern and Western influences over the centuries.
The flight to Istanbul strengthens the growing trade relationship between the two countries.
On 17 January 2021, Etihad Airways resumed passenger flights from Abu Dhabi to Istanbul (AUH-IST). The service initially operates twice-weekly flights on Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with business and economy classes.
Etihad said it was gradually returning more destinations to its global network after a pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

With 21 weekly flights to Istanbul Airport using Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft, as well as two flights in partnership with Flydubai, Emirates has a strong presence in Turkey.
Emirates launches its first scheduled commercial Airbus A380 service to Istanbul on 1 October 2021. Emirates deploys its three-class A380, offering a total of 517 seats. The increased seating capacity will help facilitate tourism exchanges between the two countries.
Since Emirates launched flights to Turkey 34 years ago, it has carried six million passengers on more than 23,000 flights.

Air Arabia operates 50 weekly flights to Turkey from the emirates of Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, including seasonal flights. The majority of these flights (45 in total) depart from Sharjah International Airport, while the remaining five depart from Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Air Arabia offers 10 weekly flights from Sharjah to Istanbul, 7 weekly flights from Sharjah to Sabiha Gokcen International Airport, and seasonal flights to Antalya and Trabzon, There are 1 class and 3 classes each day. Air Arabia also flies from Abu Dhabi International Airport to Sabiha Gokcen International Airport about five times a week.

Feida
Flydubai began operating flights to Turkey in 2010 with flights to Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SAW). Today, the Dubai-based airline has expanded its network to five destinations in the market, including Ankara Airport (ESB), Bodrum Airport (BJV), Trabzon Airport (TZX) and Istanbul International Airport (IST).

flydubai plans to ramp up operations during the busy summer travel period, increasing the capacity of its entire network by 20%. During the peak travel period from June 2023 to September 2023, flydubai will operate up to 102 weekly flights between Dubai International Airport (DXB) and the five locations it serves at Turkish airports, allowing more people to Travel conveniently during the holidays. These direct flights to Turkey are popular with passengers originating from the UAE as well as India, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, as well as transiting through the flydubai and Emirates joint network through a codeshare agreement.

Wizz Air
From early June, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi started flights to Antalya, operating every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday as part of the current summer season.
In addition to launching flights to Turkey’s capital Ankara on January 19, the airline is also working to provide more convenient, flexible and cost-effective travel services to the region.
