NATCHEZ — Those planning entertainment on Bluff’s North End or needing to charge their electric vehicles will soon have easier access to electricity.
Natchez City Councilors on Tuesday approved general contractor ads for the purchase and installation of up to six 20-, 30- and 50-amp electrical bases, five 100/200 and 400-amp electrical panels and an electric vehicle charging station.
When the project is complete, promoters and others will no longer need to drag diesel generators up cliffs to generate electricity.
The city’s director of community development, James Johnston, and the city’s director of public works, Justin Dollar, briefed councilors on the project.
Johnston said city staff worked with the local council, made up of Entergy Mississippi officials, Debbie Germany, former director of the Natchez-Adams Chamber of Commerce and event promoter Arden Barnett, to best determine the number, location and electricity demand.
The project was approved by the city’s Preservation Commission at its March meeting and by the Mississippi State Archives and Historic Landmarks Licensing Board in May.
Additional permits needed to move forward with the project have also been received, Johnston said.
He said it could take three to five months to receive the items needed for the project.
