Chevron Marine Lubricants and IMarEST UAE Host Successful Technical Symposium on Advances in Marine Fuels and Lubricants

Chevron Marine Lubricants, in partnership with the Emirates Division of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), recently held a successful technical workshop. The event, held at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, The Palm, Dubai, attracted nearly 200 representatives from the maritime industry. Focusing on the industry’s transition to low-carbon solutions, the seminar aims to provide valuable insight into the latest advances in marine fuels, lubricants and engine technologies.

NIKEEL IDNANI, Honorary Secretary of IMarEST UAE Chapter, in his keynote address delves into the historical roots of lubrication, dating back to the 17th century BC. He emphasized the importance of ensuring equipment reliability for safe navigation of ships through restricted waters. IDNANI also highlighted the ongoing energy transition in the shipping industry and the importance of environmentally friendly fuels.

SOTIRIS MEKLIS, Regional Manager, Marine, Medical and MEA, Chevron Marine Lubricants, discusses Chevron’s strategy to leverage its strengths to safely deliver low-carbon energy to a growing world. MATTHEW LYNCH, Senior Manager, Global Lubricants Products and Technologies, Chevron, shared his insights on the energy transition in the shipping industry. He highlighted Chevron Marine Lubricants’ commitment to supporting marine customers with their current and future lubricant needs. During his presentation, Lynch also shared recent field test results demonstrating the compatibility of Chevron marine lubricant products with certain biofuels.

SANDEEP PADHI, Business Development Manager, Wartsila Marine Power, in his presentation on “Engine Development in the New Fuel Sector”, reminded attendees of the various sustainable fuels that will be used in the next decade to meet the IMO 2030 and 2050 targets. He highlighted the importance of fuel flexibility and combustion engine technology in mitigating the compliance and business risks associated with sustainable fuels.

KARIMI NAYAB, Asia Pacific Trade Manager, Chevron PSAT, discusses the development of the biofuels market. Nayab provides an insightful comparison of alternative marine fuels, illuminating their advantages and challenges. Drawing on his extensive business experience, he explains typical terminology for conventional fuel oils and biofuels.

The seminar also featured interactive panel discussions and question-and-answer sessions, allowing the 167 attendees to network with distinguished speakers. Experts discussed issues related to the latest regulatory developments, advancements in marine fuels and lubricants, and technological innovations in engine design.
