UAE, Peru sign air services agreement

The UAE and the Republic of Peru signed an Air Services Agreement on behalf of the UAE, His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Peru, and on behalf of Peru, His Excellency Gervasi Díaz, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The agreement will break new ground for cooperation between the two countries and boost internal trade.

His Excellency Al Shamsi pointed out that non-oil bilateral trade with Peru will reach US$800 million in 2022, and that the UAE has invested more than US$700 million in Peru in the past five years, with internal trade reaching US$4.4 billion over the same period.

Your Excellency added: “The 2009 MoU on Political Consultation and the 2019 Visa Waiver Agreement between the two countries have been signed, and today we are signing the Air Service Agreement. In the near future, we hope to sign an agreement to protect and promote investment and avoid double taxation agreement, and other agreements that will hopefully serve the interests of our two peoples and our shared desire for further growth and prosperity”

His Excellency Al Shamsi emphasized that the agreement will facilitate the growth of trade exchanges, promote the sustainability of the economies of both countries, and strengthen bilateral aviation relations in a way that supports the development agendas of both countries.

His Excellency added: “This is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations with the Republic of Peru and will also benefit our national airline and several other sectors of the country, directly affecting the growth of air traffic between UAE and Peruvian airports, which will have Help strengthen the trade, economic and tourism relationship between the two countries.”

For her part, His Excellency Diaz stated that the UAE is an important partner, as it is the largest Arab country investing in Peru, and highlighted that the UAE was the first country in the Middle East to sign an air services agreement with a South American country.

His Excellency underscored that the signing of the air services agreement with the UAE will make Peru the communications hub of the Latin American airline network, underscoring that the signing of the agreement is a major achievement and a milestone in the strong relationship between Peru and the UAE.

His Excellency stated that the signing of the agreement will allow the establishment of new air routes to facilitate tourism and business travel between Peru and Arab countries, as well as countries in Asia and the Pacific.
