Aspen Heights British School Empowers and Connects School Counselors at Abu Dhabi School Counselors Networking Meeting

Abu Dhabi (UAE)—— Aspen Heights UK School, part of the International Schools Partnership (ISP), recently organized and delivered an event in partnership with the Abu Dhabi School Counselors Network (ADSCN) aimed at empowering and connecting school counselors across the UAE to Support the wellbeing of the student community.

The ADSCN network provides a supportive platform to share experience, knowledge and best practice to meet the holistic needs of students and contribute to their overall wellbeing, personal development and academic success.

Conference speakers included Dr. Ruba Tabari, Educational Psychologist and ADEK Consultant; Dr. Sameer Awadalla, renowned Child Psychiatrist; and Aysha Sulaiman Alkindi, Clinical Psychologist from SEHA. Reda Khan, a counselor at Aspen Heights School and one of the committee’s five co-chairs, moderated the meeting. The other co-chairs are Alison Haswell, Jennifer Guss, Tara Thompson and Victoria Blackadder.

Experts discussed the critical importance of mental health to children’s wellbeing and highlighted the role of schools in raising awareness and maintaining a safe environment for students of all ages. Dr Ruba Tabari The conference kicked off with an inspirational presentation on the importance of prioritizing school wellbeing. She highlights the power of forming strong bonds with children and the profound impact of genuinely listening to their concerns and providing human connection.

Aisha Alkindi and Dr. Samir Awadala Provides valuable insight into the most common mental health issues and trends among young people today. They emphasize the need for psychoeducation, especially for parents, to better understand and support their children’s health.

In 2022, Aspen Heights British School won the School Mental Health Award, a joint venture between Leeds Beckett University’s Carnegie School Center of Excellence in Mental Health and social enterprise Minds Ahead.
