Derek Chauvin is not too happy about being convicted Sentenced to 22.5 years Imprisoned for the murder of George Freud. According to reports, the former Minneapolis police officer submitted documents on Thursday indicating that he intends to appeal the court’s decision.

According to the Associated Press, Derek Plan appeal There are 14 reasons. In the document, he claimed that Judge Peter Cahill “has abused his discretion or made mistakes on several key points of the case”. He said that the judge abused his discretion in rejecting the request to move the trial out of Hennepin County, “because of pre-trial propaganda.”

Derek also argued that Judge Cahill did not let him crack down on “obviously biased” jurors, restricted the admissibility of evidence against George, and allowed the state to add third-level murder charges.

After the jury deliberated for 10 hours in April, Convicted Derek Second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. The verdict took place in June. You may remember that Judge Cahill stated before the sentencing that his decision was based on facts, not emotions, public opinion, or attempts to convey information.

Derek is within the 90-day notice period after the sentencing. However, he did not intend to appeal. Derek also requested that the appeal process be suspended.

The affidavit submitted on Thursday showed that Derek currently does not have a lawyer in charge of the appeal process or the income of hiring a lawyer. He also stated that he has no income except for the low prison salary. Derek requested that the appeal be retained, hoping that the Supreme Court could review the “earlier decision to reject him as a public defender.”

Derek’s attorney fees were previously paid by the Legal Defense Fund of the Minnesota Police and Peace Officials Association. In view of the results of the trial, funding sources have dried up.

“I was told that their obligation to pay my agency fees ended after I was convicted and sentenced,” Derek wrote in his affidavit.
