Biden said he and Modi will discuss what else they can do to fight Covid-19, deal with the climate challenges facing the world, and ensure stability in the Indo-Pacific region, including with their quiet partners.
India, the United States and several other world powers have been discussing the need to ensure a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region in the context of China’s increasing military exercises in the region.
“Of course, our partnership is not just what we do. It is about our shared responsibility in upholding democratic values, our shared commitment to diversity, and issues related to family relationships, including 4 million Indian Americans. The United States is getting stronger every day,” he said.
Biden pointed out that the world will celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday next week. He said: “We are all reminded that his message of non-violence, respect and tolerance may be more important today than ever.”
In this regard, Modi said: “Gandhiji talked about hosting. This concept is very important to our planet in the future.”
The Prime Minister pointed out that trade will become an important factor in India-US relations in the next ten years, and said that there is still a lot of work to be done in the region.
Modi said that this decade will be shaped by the connections between talents and people. “I am very happy that the Indian diaspora is making a positive contribution to the progress of the United States.”
He said that technology is becoming a driving force. “We must use our talents to use technology to achieve greater global benefits.”
Modi recalled his interactions with Biden in 2014 and 2016, saying, “That time you shared your vision for India-US relations. I am very happy to see that you are working hard to realize this vision.”
He said that every subject mentioned by the president is of vital importance to India-US friendship. “His efforts in Covid-19, climate change mitigation and Quad are noteworthy,” Modi added.
