The pavilion looks at possible ways to unleash the potential of individuals and communities

The Opportunities Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will provide a rich learning experience, as members of the media and some visitors can preview important parts of the world’s greatest exhibition.

The pavilion is about opportunity and positive change because it aims to encourage visitors to play an active role in creating a better future for future generations.

One of the three sub-themes of the World Expo juxtaposed with mobility and sustainability, the Opportunity Pavilion looks at possible ways to unleash the potential of individuals and communities-using the collective power of the global population to be part of this change.

The gate of the pavilion can open up to three tracks, highlighting the key sustainability goals-food, water and energy-parallel to each other, visitors can choose any or all tracks according to their interests. These resources were chosen because they are essential human needs for human progress.

Three “guides” will host each of these tracks. These changemakers from different corners of the world were selected because they have had a huge impact on their communities by helping to protect precious resources and create opportunities for the benefit of society-without a lot of resources or money. Their work shows the message conveyed by the Opportunity Pavilion, that small actions can indeed cause a huge chain reaction.

Visitors to the pavilion will have the opportunity to explore and understand the changes these “guides” have made to their communities. It will show how humans can release other opportunities when their basic needs for water, food and energy are met.

The three guides chosen are Abel Cruz, Mariam Al Juneibi and Fatma Juma Haji, and their stories are very inspiring.

Although Cruz helped solve the water shortage problem in Lima, Peru by setting up nets to collect fog and convert it into water, Mariam Al Juneibi is a farmer in the UAE. She advocates sustainable agriculture and healthy eating habits, and also encourages people to themselves Grow vegetables.

Fatma Juma Haji started a renewable energy revolution in Zanzibar by teaching women to install solar panels and helping to create sustainable energy where less than 4% of the population has access to electricity.

These three tracks lead to a lobby where visitors will be welcomed by many screens and can play challenges to teach them how to change.

The pavilion’s slogan—Mission May—appropriately summarized the pavilion’s primary message—if we take action now, we can create a better future for everyone!

Oath room

The most interesting area of the pavilion is the “commitment room”. Visitors “through the clouds” enter this upside-down space and are asked to take action to change the lives of people in the community.

The promise made is then transported to the “garden”, which is the representative on the ceiling of the room.
