EGA Summer Training Program to inspire young UAE talent, including in STEM fields, is now in its third decade

United Arab Emirates: Emirates Global Aluminum, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside of oil and gas, welcomes 40 UAE national high school and university students this summer for work experience, enhancing their career prospects and encouraging them in the UAE’s growing industrial economy seek opportunities.

EGA’s summer training program is now in its 21st year. The program aims to provide Emirati students, especially science, technology, engineering and mathematics students, with their first experience working in industry.

Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said: “Achieving the UAE Industrial Growth Strategy ‘300 Billion Action’ requires more young people to choose careers in STEM fields. Our summer training program provides young UAE nationals with the opportunity to gain first experience in industrial companies I look forward to seeing this year’s graduates joining EGA and seeing many of them subsequently choose employment in UAE industry.”

The summer training program is just one part of EGA’s commitment to developing young talent in the UAE. Since 2001, EGA has sponsored more than 500 students to complete their university studies, and currently has 80 graduate students working in the company.

EGA also hosts national training programs for high school graduates to help them progress into technical positions. Since the programs were first established in 1982, more than 5,000 UAE nationals have graduated from these programs, many of whom have gone on to long and successful careers at EGA.

The EGA recruited more than 220 UAE nationals last year, including 100 women. The average age for EGA 2022 entry for UAE nationals is 23 years.

EGA also runs an outreach program to inspire young people’s interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, reaching more than 6,000 students by 2022. These programs include Designing the Future, the EGA Ambassador Program, and the Al Robots competition for university engineering students.
