The 34th International Biology Olympiad will be held in the Arab world for the first time, with 320 students and 300 judges from 80 countries participating.

The Olympiad will be held at the United Arab Emirates University in Al Ain from July 2-10, with students taking four lab tests and two theory tests. This is the second World Olympiad to be held in the UAE, after hosting the Youth Science Olympiad in a mixed format in December 2021.

Commenting on preparations, Dr Al Shamsi noted that in addition to 200 volunteers who were trained in providing the necessary organizational support, 200 graduate students and university professors were trained in the theory and practice of preparing, supporting, implementing and managing the Games Tested training.

An educational conference will be held during the Olympiad, focusing on promoting the concept of “green education” and strategies to prepare future generations to cope with climate change.

Dr Ahmad Ali Murad, deputy deputy for scientific research at UAE University, said the Olympics were a “significant opportunity” for the university to build international partnerships and attract talented students.

“We are also committed to enhancing national talent in line with the UAE’s National Strategic Agenda as well as our academic strategy, and enhancing our global reputation by delivering research that contributes to development. Today, we, as an educational institution, are the Ministry of Education to achieve this A strategic partner with a vision,” added Dr Murad.
