TEGUCIGALPA (Honduras), June 26 (AP) Gunmen stormed a pool hall in northern Honduras and opened fire, killing 11 and prompting President Ciomara Castro to announce a curfew in the area and other security measures in response to the wave of violence related to drug trafficking.

The attack happened late Saturday night in the city of Choloma, Cortez province. 10 men and 1 woman were killed.

The massacre ensued Thursday after three people were killed at a bakery in the city of San Pedro Sula. Among the victims was Ericka Julissa Bandy García, the wife of an alleged associate of former President Juan Orlando Hernández, who He is incarcerated in the United States awaiting trial on drug-related charges.

In central Honduras, 46 inmates at a women’s prison in Tamara, north of Tegucigalpa, were killed Tuesday by members of the Barrio 18 gang.

“SPS (San Pedro Sula) and Choloma: I have taken steps to provide you with safety in the face of brutal and merciless terrorist attacks by hired thugs trained and directed by drug lords who with impunity in the Sula Valley drug corridor. ,” the president said Sunday.

The security measures announced by Castro included “raids, arrests and checkpoints 24 hours a day,” as well as curfews in Choloma and San Pedro Sula. Choloma’s curfew will be in place from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. The curfew in San Pedro Sula will begin on July 4.

National police spokesman Edgardo Barahona confirmed the attack at the pool hall.
