Pilates has a new home in Khalifa…
phosphorusOsture Studio was founded by two Emiratis, Shamma and Rodha, who discovered their love for Pilates and wellness over a decade ago and wanted to bring the benefits of Pilates to the Khalifa city of Abu Dhabi. After extensive research and training, the founders created a space where people of all ages and abilities can come together to experience the transformative power of Pilates. The studio’s welcoming and inclusive attitude ensures everyone feels at home, no matter their fitness level. The lady proprietors are starting to offer a range of popular classes, from mat pilates to barbell and the increasingly popular Reformer, so we’ve got to test it out for ourselves.
Posture uses Merrithew machines which are synonymous with the highest quality and finest build materials in the industry, so we know we are safe as Fiona, our Coaching Studio Manager, walks us through the different parts that need attention.
The Reformer can seem intimidating to the uninitiated, but it’s a simple tool based on a plate connected to a set of springs that allow it to move back and forth with varying resistance. Lessons are 50 minutes long and lessons are based on ability level.
Lie on your back, place your feet on the footboards (non-slip socks are recommended for the Reformer), and push your heels down to gently float back on the board. We repeat this move with variations to work different muscle groups in the legs, then move to the upper body at the halfway point.
The studio itself is spacious and bright, utilizing natural light to create a warm and inspiring atmosphere. There are two studios, one for bar and mat classes and one for body sculpting. Down the hallway are the changing facilities, a small selection of products are available for purchase at the reception, and there is a tea station where guests are served a welcome drink on arrival. Modern finishes add to the overall aesthetic of the studio, showing the thought and detail that went into designing the space.
Prices start from AED 100 for single-level Mat Pilates and AED 150 for the Reformer, with multi-level packages available.
