North Korea Says “Respect” Can Hold Inter-Korea Summit | Nuclear Weapons News

[ad_1]

In the second statement two days later, Kim Yo-jung said that if respect can be ensured, North Korea is ready to consider holding a North-South Korea summit.

The sister of the North Korean leader stated that if mutual “respect” and “justice” between the two countries can be guaranteed, Pyongyang is willing to consider holding another North-South Korea summit.

Saturday’s statement was Kim Yo-jung’s second in two days.

she has urge After South Korean President Moon Jae-in called for an official end to the state of war with North Korea, Seoul ended its “hostile policy” against Pyongyang on Friday.

The Korean War of 1950-53 ended with an armistice rather than a peace treaty, and the US-led army was still technically at war with North Korea.

For decades, Pyongyang has been seeking to end the war, but the United States has been reluctant to agree unless North Korea renounces nuclear weapons.

The North Korean Central News Agency quoted Kim Yo-jung as saying: “I believe that only by maintaining an attitude of justice and mutual respect can the North and the South be able to understand it smoothly.”

She also stated that the summit and the discussion on the declaration to end the war can be held “through constructive discussions as soon as possible”.

She continued to reiterate Friday’s call on Seoul to abandon the “double standard of inequality,” which apparently refers to Moon Jae-in’s criticism of North Korea’s recent missile launch.

Last week, South Korea successfully tested a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM), making it one of the few countries with advanced technology.

This month alone, North Korea has launched two missiles, one involving long-range cruise missiles and the other involving short-range ballistic missiles.

After the second U.S.-North Korea summit in Hanoi broke down in February 2019, communication between North Korea and South Korea was largely cut off because the then U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un failed Agree on the terms of the negotiation. Reach an agreement.

Kim Yoo is a powerful confidant of her brother, and she said she noted with interest the intense discussions in South Korea about the new prospect of officially declaring the end of the Korean War.

She said: “I feel that the South Korean people’s desire to restore inter-Korean relations from the deadlock and achieve peace and stability as soon as possible is irresistible.”

“We have the same desire.”

North Korea’s proposal to hold talks with South Korea came after it rejected several US dialogue proposals.

US President Joe Biden said in a speech to the United Nations last week that he hopes to resolve the crisis surrounding North Korea’s nuclear and missile programs through “continuous diplomacy”.

The head of the United Nations Atomic Energy Supervisory Agency said last week that North Korea’s nuclear program is “advancing at full speed.”
