India: Cyclone Gulab made landfall in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha today; heavy rain is expected-News

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Hurricane Gurab is approaching coastal states from the Bay of Bengal and is expected to make landfall on Sunday night. Orange warnings have been issued in the states of Orissa and Andhra Pradesh.

Orange warnings have been issued for moderate or severe thunderstorms and wind speeds of 30-40 kilometers per hour, reaching some areas of Odisha within the next three hours.

According to IMD Bhubaneswar, some areas of Orissa, including Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjama and Gajapati, may be hit by winds of 30-40 kilometers per hour.

The statement added: “It is expected that there will be moderate rain or thunderstorms in these areas, and one or two heavy rains.”

Waterlogging is expected in low-lying areas, poor visibility and traffic disruption in urban areas. The department has advised to avoid moving in the affected area.

In addition, the Meteorological Department issued yellow warnings for the Jagsingpur, Kendrapala, Badrak, Balasore and La Jakarta areas in Orissa.

IMD said in a statement: “In the next three hours, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may affect parts of Odisha, including Jagsingpur, Kendrapala, Badrak, and Barra. Sol and La Jakarta.”

In addition, IMD recommends that people pay attention to the weather and move to safer places accordingly to prevent lightning strikes.

A senior scientist at IMD Bhubaneswar Umashankar Das stated that the deep depression that has intensified over the Bay of Bengal may move westward and pass through northern Andhra Pradesh at around midnight on September 26-Orissa between Kalingapatnam and Gopalpur South coast.

Earlier, the Director of IMD Kolkata informed that Cyclone Gulab is likely to reach the West Bengal coast around September 29.

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, held a preparatory review meeting after the cyclone warning was reported by the Meteorological Office on Saturday and instructed officials to take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of the people.

The village secretariat has set up a control room, and disaster management personnel in the Skakulam and Visakhapatnam areas have entered a state of alert. Officials say that regional collectors are taking steps to set up relief camps in the required locations.

The Odisha government also initiated evacuation operations in seven areas in the south, focusing on Ganjam and Gajapati.
