Emirates News Agency – ERC sacrificial meat project benefits up to 500,000 people

ABU DHABI, 30th June, 2023 (WAM) — Some half a million people in the UAE and abroad have benefited from the meat sacrifice project launched this year by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC.

The total number of beneficiaries in the UAE is 100,000, and the number of beneficiaries in 48 other countries is 400,000.

The ERC aims to address the humanitarian crisis of food shortages on four continents by providing sacrificial meat to people in need, especially in remote areas or those displaced by conflict.

During Eid al-Adha, ERC provides support to needy families in the UAE through its centers in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Al Dhafra, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah Distribute sacrificial meat with target groups.

Globally, the ERC coordinated the distribution process with several international charities and humanitarian organizations through its offices and UAE embassies.

ERC Secretary-General Hamoud Abdullah Junaibi said that the ERC is constantly seeking to increase the number of people in the UAE and abroad who benefit from its meat sacrificial programs and to provide the best services to those in need.

He added that the ERC’s Meat Sacrifice project is implemented annually as part of our strategy to support friendly countries, stressing that the project strengthens the empathy of the UAE community by facilitating responses to humanitarian issues affecting impoverished communities.

He further added that the European Research Council has extended the scope of the project to countries affected by disasters and crises with deteriorating humanitarian conditions, especially in Asia and Africa.

ERC’s meat sacrificial projects have been launched in 11 Asian countries including Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Nepal, Jordan, Yemen, Philippines, Pakistan, Vietnam and Syria.

It also covers 26 African countries including Egypt, Mauritania, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Uganda, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Rwanda, Somalia, Comoros, Guinea, Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Cape Verde, Benin , Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Morocco, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, Niger and Togo.

In addition, eight European countries including Georgia, Tajikistan, Serbia, Kyrgyzstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Turkey and Kazakhstan are also part of the project.

Chile and Argentina in South America also benefited from the project.
