The UAE has granted the first permit for autonomous vehicles to drive on the country’s roads. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, said on Twitter that WeRide has obtained permission.

The company will test different types of autonomous vehicles that will redefine the future of mobility in the UAE.

WeRide is headquartered in Guangzhou, China, with centers in Abu Dhabi and other cities, according to its website. It conducts autonomous driving research and operations in more than 26 cities around the world.

“WeRide provides … a product portfolio of Robotaxi, Robobus, Robovan, Robosweeper and advanced driving solutions, providing intelligent services in online car-hailing, on-demand transportation, urban logistics, environmental services, etc., and as a solution provider, ’” its website says.
