In the accident east of Lima, at least two children were among the 32 victims and another 20 were injured.

Officials said that a bus in Peru fell from a cliff and killed at least 32 passengers, including two children, and injured more than 20 people. This is the third transportation accident in the country in which more than one person was injured in four days.

The accident happened on a narrow section of the Carretera Central Highway about 60 kilometers (37 miles) east of the capital Lima on Tuesday. This road connects Lima with most of the central Andes.

“Unfortunately, there are currently 32 deaths,” said Cesar Cervantes, the police commander.

According to the police, a 6-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl were among the dead.

There were 63 passengers on the bus.

The police added on Twitter that they are conducting search and rescue operations on possible survivors and looking for dead bodies.

Cervantes said that the “recklessness” caused the accident on Tuesday, adding that the bus had been driving at “high speed”.

According to survivors, it hit a rock and plunged into an abyss about 200 meters (650 feet) deep.

On Sunday, two ships collided on the Amazon River in Peru, killing 22 people. An undetermined figure is still missing.

Two days ago, another bus crashed into a ravine in the southeast of the country, killing 17 people.

Road accidents are common in Andean countries due to speeding by motorists, poor maintenance of highways, lack of road signs, and poor enforcement of traffic safety.
