A Canadian source who is directly familiar with the matter told Reuters that a Chinese court is expected to rule on the imprisoned Canadian Michael Spavor as early as Wednesday.

Chinese authorities arrested businessman Spavor in December 2018. A few days ago, Canada detained Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s chief financial officer, in response to a US extradition request.Canadian researcher and political analyst Michael Cumming Was also arrested.

Both were held in solitary confinement for several months before being accused of espionage.Their Trial It happened in March.

The United States and Canada accused China of retaliating against Meng’s arrest, but Beijing insisted that these cases were not related.

Meng Wanzhou is the daughter of Huawei founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei. She has been living in a mansion in Vancouver during her extradition to the United States; a verdict on her case is expected soon.

Since their arrest, Spavor and Kovrig have had little contact with the outside world, and rarely have contact with Chinese lawyers. Virtual consular visits resumed in October only after a 9-month interruption, and the authorities said it was necessary to do so due to the coronavirus.

The conviction rate in the Chinese courts controlled by the CCP is close to 100%.
