Traveling to the capital soon? Note the recent opening of a new 11km long bridge in Abu Dhabi. The bridge project consists of seven bridges connecting Al Reem Island, Umm Yifenah Island and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street in Abu Dhabi. The Umm Yifeenah Bridge is part of the first phase of the Mid Island Parkway project which, once completed in 2028, will link Al Reem Island, Saadiyat Island, Al Raha Beach and Khalifa City.
Traveling 3.8 kilometers over the water, the six-lane highway will be a game-changer, with capacity for about 6,000 vehicles an hour in both directions. Built in partnership with the municipality and transportation department, this new development features pedestrian and cycle paths with bike rental facilities to promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. The Mid Island Parkway project aims to include cycling and walking paths, offering stunning views of the Abu Dhabi skyline and natural surroundings.
Conservation of the environment is at the heart of this development, which has been specifically designed to preserve the natural surroundings of the project.the development uses prefabricated concrete elements and arched causeways to ensure and minimize the impact on water flow Mangrove wetlands. In addition, 85% of construction materials were sourced locally, demonstrating a strong commitment to supporting the local economy.
The project will not only improve infrastructure, but also foster the development of the community, local businesses, citizens, residents and tourists.
