A peek at teamLab Phenomena’s megaproject in Abu Dhabi

[ad_1]

The phenomenon that is taking shape…

Due for completion in 2024, teamLab Phenomena is the result of a collaboration between DCT Abu Dhabi, Miral and teamLab – and as you can see from the renderings, the result looks set to be an engineering masterpiece.

It is currently under construction in the hive of mega-project activity, the Saadiyat Cultural District.

The architectural marvel this building represents is more than superficial. The futuristic space will span 17,000 square meters of gallery space and is billed as the “House of Infinite Curiosity”.

But what exactly does that mean?

It’s a really cool concept where the series will be curated around the themes of “environmental phenomena” and “offering a new perspective on the world”. The real genius here, though, is that the exhibits will be shaped by their changing environments and, like their organic inspirations, grow and evolve in imitation of the theme.

Each piece will be designed to respond to its specific local context within the teamLab Phenomena building, and the interactions it encounters. This ever-changing virtual world means every visit for every guest produces a different experience.

But with the opening still some way off in 2024, His Excellency Mohammad Khalifa Mubarak (DCT Abu Dhabi), Chairman of Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism, traveled to Japan to see what the tech “team” of the future has been working on in the “lab” .

The Chairman’s tour included stops at the teamLab Planets Museum in Tokyo; teamLab’s amazing outdoor museum in the ancient forests of Kyushu, and of course teamLab’s development studio in Tokyo, Japan.

Commenting on the visit, HE Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak said: “Sitting at the intersection of art, technology, nature and high-tech fantasy, teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will offer a world of boundless wonder and creativity. possible” to expand our horizons and push boundaries to better connect with each other.

“We are committed to inspiring a new generation of innovators in Abu Dhabi and the world, in addition to creating cultural experiences and telling our stories, similarities and differences – we believe in the diversity of our artistic expression,” he added.

Of course, teamLab Phenomena isn’t the only groundbreaking cultural attraction cobbled together on this deserted island. Already home to the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Saadiyat Cultural District will soon be home to the Zayed National Museum; the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi; the Abraham Family House; the Natural History Museum; and Saadiyat grove. For more information on these programs, check out our guides six New museums and major cultural projects coming soon.
