Abdullah Obaid Saleh, Captain of Etihad Airways, took us into the cockpit for this year’s flyby #ABUDHABIGP

With fans pouring into the Yas Marina Circuit for the 2021 Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend, Captain Abdullah and his crew will be a few days before the end of the 2021 F1 season. The Boeing 787 Greenliner of Etihad Airways flew over the starting line in minutes.

Etihad Greenliner is the hallmark of Etihad’s pioneering sustainable development plan, which enables the airline to achieve significant progress in its mission to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, leading the industry in sustainable aviation development status.

The 48-year-old Emirati will usher in his fourth year as the chief pilot of the iconic pre-match flyby, and will take control of the Etihad aircraft flying over the direct home of the Yas Marina Circuit, only a short distance from the track. 600 feet. ground.

“Although this is our fourth time to participate in the flyby, we always practice and prepare like the first time. The key is simple: practice, practice, practice again. We started to determine on the drawing board how we hope to demonstrate the effect this year, The whole team sits down and sees how we can improve from day one. Then we will head to the simulator, because for such a precise task, a comprehensive understanding of how everything fits together is essential.”

“By far, the most difficult aspect is timing-we need to fly over the track at 4:44:50 on Sunday afternoon, instead of one second, in order to coincide with the end of the national anthem. This is a heartbreaking one. At this moment, we feel incredibly responsible for this. So far, we have managed to complete the flyby with perfect timing, and we hope to continue in the upcoming game day,” he said.

In another incredible visual performance, Captain Abdullah’s team has three of the most experienced crew in the UAE, as well as Captain Mohamed Al Tamimi, Captain Deris Mousavi and Mimo Captain Catalano, everyone plays a different role to ensure that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner flies in perfect harmony on the Yas Marina Circuit at a speed of over 380 km/h. With Fursan Al Emarat appearing in the pre-match display, communication is critical to the team’s success.

He added: “The team from Al Fursan is incredible. You only need to give them instructions once, and they will execute them perfectly. We really need to communicate continuously and there is no room for fault tolerance; if the flight plan changes by one degree, We will synchronize with Al Fursan and execute the movement safely and quickly. Flying in the air with them is a wonderful experience, and we are lucky to work with them every year.”

Although the fans will head to the stands to watch the historic match on Sunday, Captain Abdullah will be ready to go all out before that special moment arrives. “On the day of the race, we usually take an hour from take-off to landing. Some of the time is spent’waiting’, waiting for the perfect moment. When we set off at 3:45 pm on the day of the race, we will spend some time assessing the wind direction and The wind speed can be calculated. If something is a little inappropriate, we need to be aware of it and adjust it quickly so that we can grasp the moment when we are going to perfection.”

The flyby itself only lasted a short time, but this day made Captain Abdullah and his team so special. “From the moment I woke up, it was a different feeling. I understand our responsibility, and we do feel very special because we have the opportunity to participate in such a memorable event. It’s almost like it has been to us for many years. Reward for hard work, it’s always a pleasant day.”

“This is truly a global event, and everyone’s eyes are on Abu Dhabi-the team is honored to be able to participate in such an iconic moment and represent the country on the global stage.”

Captain Abdullah has flown thousands of hours around the world during his time as a pilot, but he owes his career to basic knowledge. “For any aspiring young pilot, you need to know your aircraft. Having experience and the right skills will help, but you need to really understand the ins and outs of each type of aircraft you might fly. As time goes by, You will gain experience, but our team believes in working hard and having basic knowledge first. We always plan to introduce new people to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix every year, but this is how they win their seats. We are honored to be part of this For a moment, we realized our responsibility to the passengers on our airliner and the fans at the Yas Marina Circuit on Sunday.”

As the FORMULA 1 Etihad Airways 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix approaches, Captain Abdullah will kick off the once-in-a-lifetime F1 season finals in Abu Dhabi on a clear blue sky while celebrating the United Arab Emirates Emirates enters the world stage. This UAE pilot will cherish a moment in his life.
