An interfaith complex containing a mosque, church and synagogue has opened in the UAE capital. The complex, called the Abrahamic Family House, was inaugurated on Thursday.

The compound will be open to the public from March 1, with tours allowed from 10am. Residents and visitors must make advance reservations prior to visiting.

UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan highlighted on Twitter how the country has a “proud history” of people from diverse communities working together to create new possibilities.

“With the inauguration of the Abraham Family House in Abu Dhabi, we remain committed to harnessing the power of mutual respect, understanding and diversity for mutual progress,” he added.

According to its official social media accounts, the complex is a place of “practice of faith and reflection” where people can “explore and exchange knowledge”. It’s also a “forum for people to connect”.

Authorities had earlier released the names of three iconic houses of worship: Imam Tayeb Mosque, St. Francis Church and Moses ben Maimon Synagogue.

The three places of worship are named after Dr. Ahmed Al Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar; Pope Francis, leader of the Catholic Church; and Moses Ben Maimon, 12th-century Jewish philosopher.

The complex houses a cultural center designed to encourage human fraternity and solidarity. It aims to build a community that cherishes the values of mutual respect and peaceful coexistence, while preserving the uniqueness of each faith.

The design of the project reflects the shared values between Islam, Christianity and Judaism. The complex tells history and bridges the gap between human civilization and sacred messages
