Abu Dhabi 2022: Preview of World Para Triathlon Championships – Paratriathlon News

[ad_1]

The 2022 Abu Dhabi World Triathlon Championships final kicks off on Thursday 24th November – starting with this commentator’s topic, 2022 World Para Triathlon Championships.

Although there is the World Triathlon Paralympics Series (UK station held in swansea this year), unlike WTCS (points that accumulate and ultimately determine the podium of the World Championships this season), for athletes with disabilities, Abu Dhabi remains one-day World Para Triathlon Championships.

When it starts and how to follow the live stream

The sprint race at Yas Marina consists of a single lap of the 750m swim, five laps of the 20km bike race, and ends with two laps of running around 5km.

The Paralympics schedule (all local times) for Thursday, November 24 is as follows:

  • 0800 – PTVI but
  • 0807 – PTVI female
  • 0845 – PTWC men
  • 0850 – PTWC men
  • 0945 – PTS5 – Go
  • 0950 – PTS5 – Female
  • 1000 – PTS4/3/2 – Female
  • 1010 – PTS4 – but
  • 1015 – PTS2/3 – Men

Starting time (0800 local time in Abu Dhabi, corresponding to 0400 UK, 0500 CET, 2300 Eastern time (Wednesday), 2000 Pacific time (Wednesday)).

The event will be broadcast live on World Triathlon’s TriathlonLive.tv streaming service.

Categories – Reminders

As the sport has grown and the classification has become more consistent in recent years, the familiarity of Paratriathlon competition has increased. Of course, it’s never a bad thing to be reminded of how it all works, and we’d love to help with that. Below is a high-level summary of the six categories that will be held in Abu Dhabi.

categorydescribe**
PTWCwheelchair
PTS2serious bodily injury
PTS3serious bodily injury
PTS4moderate physical impairment
starcraft 5minor bodily injury
PTVIvisually impaired

(**Note the use of “layman’s terms” above is for brevity – full details of the ITU classification methodology for disabled triathlons can be found here).

The “PTS” designation stands for standing/moving category and the number represents the level of impairment.Notably, it is influences Injuries that determine the category in which an athlete competes, rather than nature its. For example, you’ll see athletes with arm and/or leg disabilities compete against each other in the PTS5 category.

PTVI athletes complete the entire race with a mandatory guide (same nationality and gender), cycling partially in tandem. Totally blind athletes (PTVI1) start first, followed by partially sighted athletes (PTVI2/PTVI3), but compete in a single medal event – first across the finish line. For men, this offset is 2 minutes 46 seconds For women, this is 3 minutes 19 seconds.

PTWC athletes swim solo, complete the bike legs with a hand bike and the run portion with a racing wheelchair. In a similar fashion to the PTVI example above, the most impaired wheelchair user (PTWC1) starts first, followed by the least impaired wheelchair user (PTWC2), again wrong it is a medal event, the first to cross the line .For men, this offset is 2 minutes 59 seconds For women, this is 3 minutes 42 seconds.

Three of the four Paralympic gold medalists from Tokyo will be in the UAE, including Jez Apartments (PTWC), Alex Hankunquant (PTS4), Martin Schulz (PTS5).

PTWC: Plat hasn’t been beaten in a triathlon for a long time, maybe he’s just dabbling recently World Marathon Grand Slam A slightly different focus could—maybe—convince his opponents that they could finally topple the mighty Dutchman. Not too possible!

PTS4: Alexis is equally unstoppable in the PTS4 category and appears to be on a winning streak for several years, which will lead him to Paris.

Alexis Hankunquant

starcraft 5: PTS5 division, very sad, Will miss England’s George Peasgood, he has a different type of fight to contend with now, but competition from Stefan Daniel (Canada) and defending champion Chris Hammer (USA) remains strong. It’s a safe bet that athletes competing will take the popular Peasgood seriously.

PTVI: Visually impaired sector to see UK, European and Commonwealth Championship The combination of Dave Ellis and Guide Luke Pollard is the one to beat — something no one has been able to do this year. Thibaut Rigaudeau (Guide, Cyril Viennot) and Antoine Perel (Guide, Yohan Le Berre) may be among those most likely to challenge this impressive British duo.

PTS2/PTS3: Jules Ribstein (FRA), the defending PTS2 champion, has been in fine form this year, including a big win at the WTPS event in Swansea, while Spain’s Daniel Molina is in the World Triathlon Para Rankings at PTS3 among the best.

Expect a tough fight between him and Nico Van Der Burgt (NED), who were separated by just 35 seconds at last year’s World Championships, also in Abu Dhabi.

female

Two of the four Tokyo 2020 Paralympic medalists depart from Abu Dhabi — Kendall Grech (PTWC), Suzanne Rodriguez (PTVI).

PTVI: Like Plat and Hanquinquant, Rodriguez has looked almost invincible in recent years.

The British have a strong interest in this place commonwealth games gold medalist, Katie Crowhurst (plus new Guide, Ella Beard) and Alison Peasgood (Guide, Brooke Gillies), who earned bronze in 2021.Medals hard won, Annouck Curzillat (France) impresses swansea champions and bronze, as well as Francesca Tarantello (Italy), among several other potential contenders for podium honors.

PTWC: This versatile grech will face again Lauren Parkerwho is she with One of the greatest finishes I’ve seen in any sport, at the 2022 Tokyo Olympics. However, the Australian has dominated since then, is the defending world champion and has notched big victories over the American athlete in both Montreal and Swansea this year.

Lauren Parker / Kendall Greich / Tokyo 2020

Keep an eye out for Britain’s Melissa Nicholls, who finished third at Swansea in her debut for the sport. She came into triathlon with a strong background in para athletics and progressed quickly.

starcraft 5: The absence of another head-to-head clash between Paralympic champion Lauren Steadman, Grace Norman (USA) and Claire Cashmore (Great Britain) will be the obvious decision here. Cashmore beat Norman to take gold in Abu Dhabi last year to become the defending champion, but the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalist turned twice at the World Triathlon Para Cup competition in June this year. There’s no reason to expect anything other than another close game.

PTS4: Last year’s PTS4 World Champion, who was not part of the Tokyo Medals program, was Kelly Elmlinger (USA). She defends that Marta Francis Gomez (ESP) may be one of her closest challengers.

PTS3/PTS2: There are only two competitors in the PTS3 category (Elise Marc (France)/Sanne Koopman (Netherlands)), but PTS2 – an event at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games that includes silver and bronze medalists Hailey Danz (USA) and Veronica Plebani (Italy). As the reigning world champion, No. 1 and unbeaten all year, Danz will be the favorite to win.
