Dubai: A unified address system can now help you get to your location in Abu Dhabi faster, you only need three basic pieces of information – building number, street name and city name.
Launched by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), the Onwani system aims to reduce emergency response times, facilitate residents and tourists traveling around the emirate, and support businesses by enhancing logistics services.
How to use the Onwani system?
No matter which navigation app you use, the Onwani system will make it easy for you to find any address in the emirate by providing three details:
1. Building number
2. Street name
3. City name (Abu Dhabi City, Al Ain, Al Dhafra, etc.)
Example: 26 Al Seray Street, Khalifa, Abu Dhabi
Simply enter these details into whatever navigation tool you use – whether it’s an app on your phone or the navigation system of the taxi you’re in. Follow this address system and you will be able to reach your destination easily.
Where can I find building numbers in Abu Dhabi?
Address panels have been installed in approximately 200,000 buildings in Abu Dhabi as part of the Onwani programme. Only one number can be written on the blue and white address card, which is the building number. Abu Dhabi DMT also said it had also named some 19,000 streets as part of the programme.
Share your location via QR code
If you’re near a building, an easy way to share your location with friends, emergency responders, or even delivery agents is to scan the Quick Response (QR) code that’s also placed on the address board.
