Abu Dhabi accountant is latest OFW to win AED100,000 in UAE draw

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A 39-year-old accountant working for a construction company in Abu Dhabi is the latest overseas Filipino worker to win the Mahzooz weekly draw, pocketing Dh100,000 (P1.6 million) ) bonus.

Winner Joanna said she plans to use her winnings to buy a farm in her hometown of General Santos.

“Super saya ko talaga,” Joanna told GMA News Online. “It’s still hard for me to believe. I’m still trying to digest everything and let it sink in,” said Joanna, who arrived in the UAE in 2008 14 years ago.

“I’m going to buy a piece of the farm from us for future use,” she added.

(I’m super happy. I’m planning to buy a piece of the farm here with us for future use.)

Joanna said that on the night of the draw, a colleague sent her a message telling her she had won the lottery.

“Because I was outside, going to the park with friends. I checked your ticket number. It was me!” she said. (I was out to the park with a friend. I checked the ticket number. Indeed, I won!)

Joanna says she has a combination of numbers. “Just my favorite numbers that I keep; no special dates in particular,” she said.

She said she started joining the Mahzooz draw two years ago in the days of the pandemic. “I do it every week. Although sometimes, I forget to do it,” says Joanna.

Joana is the second OFW to win AED 100,000 in the Mahzooz weekly draw this month.

Mahzooz announced last week that Filipino chef Carrol, a single mom, won.

Carol, 43, from Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, said she could not save Dh100,000 from her monthly salary of Dh6,000. “Now, I have it right away,” she said.

“I promise that once I win, I will donate to disability charities in the Philippines,” Carroll added. (I have pledged to donate to disability charities in my hometown if I win.)

A machine operator at a baby wipes company in August Win AED 5 million – the equivalent of about 76 million pesos – a few days before his 45th birthday. Nelson told reporters that his victory was “a gift from God.”

According to Mahzooz, in the latest draw last Saturday, 20 participants matched four out of five numbers and shared the second prize of Dh1,000,000, each of which was awarded Dh50,000.

Three participants shared AED 300,000 in the weekly raffle. The lucky winners who received Dh100,000 each were Taleen from Syria, Arun and Joana from India. The winning numbers are 21329539, 21452149, 21751557

The top prize of AED 10,000,000 is still waiting to be won and will be drawn again on Saturday 22 October at 9pm UAE time.

Participating in Mahzooz is easy as all entrants must register through www.mahzooz.ae and buy a bottle of water for AED 35, which will be sold to community services through partners.

Mahzooz has launched a limited-time offer that entitles participants to two lines of entries instead of one for every bottle of wine purchased. This doubles their chances of winning the Mahzooz Grand Prize – AED10,000,000 for the top prize; AED1,000,000 for the second prize; or AED350 for the third prize.

They will also be automatically entered into a weekly draw, where three lucky winners will be guaranteed AED 100,000 each. All they have to do is buy a bottle of water for Dh35 and choose two sets of five numbers. – Kilogram, GMA News
