Abu Dhabi adds Tadweer to ADQ portfolio

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi-based ADQ, an investment holding company, has announced the addition of Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) to its energy and utilities portfolio.

ADQ said on Friday that Tadweer had been transformed into a public joint stock company and its entire shareholding had been transferred from the Abu Dhabi government to ADQ.

ADQ added that the transfer further strengthens ADQ’s position in “supporting the deployment of circular economy principles and driving excellence across its expanding portfolio”.

“Waste management is a cornerstone of a circular economy that contributes to a more sustainable future in the UAE,” said Hamad A. Alhammadi, Executive Director, Energy and Utilities Portfolio, ADQ.

“Tadweer is a valuable addition to our energy and utilities portfolio, not least because it plays a vital role in capturing value through recycling and reusing waste. It complements what we are already doing for a sustainable environment in the local economy. Investments in key clusters that contribute.”

Tadweer is the only company dealing with waste management in Abu Dhabi. It aims to develop an integrated waste management sector and extract value from waste to contribute to the country’s sustainable development goals. Waste management companies processed more than 1,860,000 tonnes of waste, including 88,382 tonnes of medical waste and hazardous waste, and handled 50,000 pest control requests in the first half of 2022.

“Becoming part of the ADQ portfolio is an important milestone in our transformation of our approach to waste management in Abu Dhabi,” added Ali Al Dhaheri, Acting Director General of Tadweer.

“The development of an integrated waste management sector remains critical to the health and safety of Abu Dhabi and its communities.”

ADQ’s energy and utilities portfolio includes Abu Dhabi National Energy Company (TAQA), Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC), Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) and Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC).
