Abu Dhabi is aiming to welcome 24 million tourists by 2023, and with it a sharp rise in hotel occupancy.
With 18 million visitors last year, Abu Dhabi is starting to reap the benefits of a reworked tourism strategy that puts a greater emphasis on providing local “experiences” and serves as a venue for global businesses and industries to host conferences and exhibitions.
“The new target follows a surge in Abu Dhabi’s tourism industry in 2022, with hotel occupancy rates and other indicators suggesting the sector’s recovery is well underway,” said Saood Abdulaziz Al Hosani, DCT (Department of Culture and Tourism) Deputy Minister of Abu Dhabi .
The 18 million visitors represented a 13% increase over 2021, while “hotel occupancy reached 70%, exceeding the Middle East average of 67%,” Al Hosani said.
Of course, Formula 1 week is still fascinating, especially with the post-race concerts and events. More high-profile global events form part of Abu Dhabi’s carefully crafted tourism and hospitality strategy.
The Abu Dhabi Calendar hosted more than 100 events over 180 days last year, including Sting and K-pop group BLACKPINK, and Oscar-winning Indian composer AR Rahman.
“We are committed to achieving our 2023 ambitions by furthering our successful strategy of creating and delivering unique experiences for everyone,” said Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director, DCT Abu Dhabi Tourism. “The MICE industry continues to thrive as the UAE hosts world-leading venues, hotels and supporting facilities.” -INP
