Abu Dhabi Airports, operator of five UAE airports, revealed that Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Ain International Airport, Al Bateen Executive Airport, Del Mar Airport and Sir Baniyas Island Airport handled 6,299,725 passengers in the first half of 2022 trips.
According to the Emirates News Agency, these airports also recorded 94,538 flights in the first half of 2022, a clear indication of substantial growth in network and passenger traffic, while maintaining the highest levels of operational excellence WAM.
Shareef Hashim Al Hashmi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “Our passenger traffic results for the first half of the year represent another big step forward for Abu Dhabi Airports and the wider industry. While 2021 has been a successful year , but the goal for 2022 is to always build on this momentum by meeting the needs of more travelers and expanding our airline network with our partners, while remaining committed to delivering the highest level of service excellence.”
“The recovery of regional and global markets and the successful efforts of airlines to meet demand safely and efficiently will be critical to achieving these numbers. Going forward, we aim to build on this success in the second half of 2022,” he said. added.
At the UAE’s largest airport, Abu Dhabi International (AUH) alone, the number of scheduled passenger flights increased by 94% compared to the first half of 2021. Today, AUH is connected to 101 scheduled passenger destinations served by 23 airlines, compared to 76 destinations – a decrease of 19 airlines a year earlier.
The top five countries by AUH passenger traffic in the first half of 2022 are India (1,280,000), Pakistan (485,000), the United Kingdom (374,000), KSA (333,000) and Egypt (283,000). Meanwhile, the top five destination airports were London Heathrow (276,000), Derry (225,000), Mumbai (221,000), Cochin (217,000) and Cairo (203,000).
Abu Dhabi International also handled 297,549 tonnes of air cargo during the first half of the year, further underscoring the UAE’s capabilities and strategic position as a cargo and freight handling hub in the UAE and the region.
