Abu Dhabi airports all adopt advanced biometrics and contactless boarding

The technology will be rolled out gradually, and its first phase is currently being tested at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility at Abu Dhabi International Airport, the only U.S. immigration pre-clearance service in the region that allows passengers to enter and exit the United States. Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Airports, said: “We look forward to further enhancing our passenger journey with this holistic biometric technology, a first in the UAE and in the world. The project will be launched from Abu Dhabi International Starting at the airport and moving to the new midfield terminal in the future, we continue to work on improving the airport service and experience. We also take this opportunity to recognize Etihad Airways, the first airline to use the technology, our technical collaboration Partners NEXT50 and the UAE Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, without whom today’s groundbreaking announcement would not be possible.”

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director General of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, said: “This advanced technology provides passengers with a smooth customer journey through the use of biometric data records, which will allow passengers to travel exclusively at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Use biometric data for check-in, immigration, lounge access and boarding without showing a passport or boarding pass.”

The move comes ahead of Etihad Airways increasing flights to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport from four to 11 a week from 15 November. USCBP technology has also been implemented at JFK, meaning guests flying from New York to Abu Dhabi will also enjoy a seamless boarding experience.

Mohammad Al Bulooki, Group Chief Operating Officer, Etihad Airways said: “This innovation is an important next step in Etihad’s self-service journey. Domestic passengers arrive without further delays. This is a showcase of Abu Dhabi’s progress in the ever-expanding field of biometrics, making the journey easier for guests while maintaining strict security.”

Fully funded by Abu Dhabi Airports and delivered by Abu Dhabi technology company NEXT50, the system will be tested on Etihad Airways flights to the US and will be introduced in the first phase of a major deployment throughout the flight . Airports that all airlines can benefit from in the coming months.

The introduction of this advanced technology was announced on the first day of Abu Dhabi Aviation Expo 2022, which will be hosted by Abu Dhabi Airports at Al Bateen Executive Airport from 1-3 November, bringing together aviation industry leaders professionals, professionals and hobbyists and the aerospace sector.
