Its first phase is currently being tested on U.S. flights in the UAE capital
Abu Dhabi Airports is preparing to roll out advanced biometric technology that uses passengers’ facial features as their passports from their arrival at the airport until boarding.
The technology uses smart cameras to capture images of passengers’ faces and confirms if they can travel. Then use the same information before boarding, avoiding the need to show documents again.
The technology will be implemented gradually, and its first phase is currently being tested at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility at Abu Dhabi International Airport, the only U.S. immigration pre-clearance service in the region that allows passengers to migrate through the U.S. without their Still in Abu Dhabi.

The move comes ahead of Etihad Airways increasing its flights to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport from four to 11 weekly flights from 15 November 2022.
JFK has also adopted USCBP technology, meaning passengers flying from New York to Abu Dhabi will also enjoy a seamless boarding experience.
Mohammad Al Bulooki, Chief Operating Officer, Etihad Airways Group, said: “This innovation is an important next step in Etihad’s self-service journey. On top of the benefit of domestic passengers arriving without further delays.”
The system, which will be tested on Etihad Airways flights to the US, is the first phase of a major rollout to be rolled out across the airport in the coming months, benefiting all airlines.
The introduction of this advanced technology was announced on the first day of the Abu Dhabi Aviation Expo 2022, hosted by Abu Dhabi Airports at Al Bateen Executive Airport from 1-3 November.
