Abu Dhabi ALC organizes workshop on creative writing courses for UAE Reading Month

Abu Dhabi, UAE – The Abu Dhabi Arabic Center (ALC), part of the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT Abu Dhabi), organized a series of workshops and lectures under its Creative Writing Programme, as part of its participation in the 2023 UAE Reading Month.

The ALC has launched a creative writing program designed to help writers improve their Arabic language skills and strengthen their writing in different genres such as fiction, children’s books, poetry, Arabic calligraphy, academic papers and plays.

HE Saeed Hamdan Al Tunaiji, Executive Director of ALC, said: “In line with the vision of our country’s wise leadership, the Abu Dhabi Arabic Center is committed to enhancing and nurturing literary talent to further enhance the status of the Arabic language and contribute to a richer world. Regional creative scene.Held during the annual UAE Reading Month, our creative writing program is presented by a panel of experts in their fields and equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to take their work to the next level. “

The “Communications in the Workplace” session, presented by Dr. Ali Kamel Al-Sharif, discussed the concepts and different forms of business writing, as well as skills related to scientific writing, a form of technical writing that communicates scientific information.

On International Women’s Day (March 8), Dr. Fatima Hamad Al Mazrouei and Asma Al Mutawa moderated the “Women in the Literary Pioneer” workshop, moderated by Hessa Nasser Al Jaroudi. The event illuminates the achievements of Arab women in literature and poetry, highlighting their contributions in this field.

The title of the symposium focuses on the UAE’s role in preserving Arabic calligraphy. The session, led by calligrapher Khaled Al-Jallaf, President of the UAE Arabic Calligraphy Association, discussed the history of Arabic calligraphy in the UAE, as well as the tools and procedures used to prepare paper, ink and brush for calligraphic compositions.

Dr. Bilal Orfali, Sheikh Zayed Chair Professor of Arabic and Islamic Studies and Chair of the Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages ​​at the American University of Beirut, presented “Life Every Reading,” tracing the experiences of prominent readers throughout history, emphasizing that reading is an inherent habit.

Author Najwa Barakat presents the ‘The Art of Fiction Writing’ workshop, covering the basic skills needed in the field. The session showcases a selection of examples of fiction developed and produced according to the highest writing standards.

To mark World Poetry Day (March 21), Dr Aisha Al Shamsi moderated a session titled “Poetry Night”, which brought together Dr Monsef Al Wahaibi, Dr Maha Al-Atoum and Dr Alaa Janab to discuss Describes the structure of poetry and the music of poetry in various poetic forms. Activities also include poetry writing interactive activities.

Finally, the “Qasr Al Watan Salon” meeting discussed the book Tolstoy’s Liberation Ivan Bunin’s writing combines biography, memoir writing, and critical research. Members of the Kalima Literary Club participated in the meeting, exchanging views on the life of the famous Russian writer and intellectual and discussing the technical structure of the book and its Arabic translation.
