Abu Dhabi Arts today announced the establishment of the Friends of Abu Dhabi Arts-an initiative to promote a new model of public cultural philanthropy and help support the vibrant arts ecosystem of the UAE through Abu Dhabi Arts. The Friends of Abu Dhabi Art and the first group of more than 40 professional art enthusiasts started this year and will support the Abu Dhabi Art Beyond: Emerging Artists, which is curated by guest curators Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath. Founder of the repositioning of a multidisciplinary curatorial platform

Dyala Nusseibeh, Art Director of Abu Dhabi, said: “We are very grateful to our members of Friends of Art in Abu Dhabi who will play an indispensable role in supporting emerging UAE artists this year and involving the wider public in their works. As a group of cultural philanthropists gathered together with the common desire to support UAE art, Friends of the Arts Abu Dhabi will strengthen and enhance our existing Beyond: Emerging Artists program in exciting new ways this year.”

Anyone who wants to actively support UAE artists and the art ecosystem can also apply to join the program through the web. All members must pay an annual membership fee, and the funds raised can be commissioned for new works of art through the Abu Dhabi Art Center. Keystone members will serve as an advisory group for Friends of Art in Abu Dhabi, supervised by the co-leader, Nadine Maalouf, co-founder of 81 Designs, and Nadia Sehweil, CEO of Bodytree Wellness.

Commenting on the newly established initiative, Nadine Maalouf, co-head of Friends of Art Abu Dhabi and co-founder of 81 Designs, said: “The members of Friends of Art Abu Dhabi are ready to support the UAE’s art ecosystem through this new platform and help the UAE’s emerging Artists develop their work and attract new audiences. We joined because we are committed to supporting the art of the UAE, and we look forward to ensuring wider community participation and connecting with the thriving local art world. Earlier this month , I participated in Sam Bardaouil’s curatorial speech. Their work left a deep impression on me, and I am very happy to see what new conversations their contributions have generated this year.”

Nadia Sehweil, Co-Director of Friends of the Arts Abu Dhabi and CEO of Bodytree Wellness, added: “Friends of the Arts Abu Dhabi is not limited to financial support. This is to encourage community members to conduct independent activities for the benefit of the local arts ecosystem. The global arts and culture sector needs to find sustainable ways to recover and become more adaptable in the post-pandemic era. The Friends of Abu Dhabi Art will play an important role in plans to strengthen the arts in Abu Dhabi, and through Abu Dhabi Art Provide a platform for funding, knowledge exchange and network planning for different participants in the industry.”

Membership benefits include the opportunity to participate in private conversations with designated curators and artists, as well as artist studio visits and activities, private visits to the Abu Dhabi Art Fair in November, and commissioning of new works in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi Art announced earlier this month that Sam Bardaouil and Till Fellrath will commission emerging UAE artists to create three new works; Hashel Al Lamki, Maitha Abdalla and Christopher Benton’s Beyond: Emerging Artists will be exhibited at the exhibition in November. The annual Abu Dhabi Art Project was selected as the first initiative supported by the Friends of Art in Abu Dhabi this year, marking the future cooperation with emerging and established artists in the UAE.

The upcoming exhibition will be open to the public in Manarat Al Saadiyat from Wednesday, November 17 to Sunday, November 21, 2021.

The 2021 Abu Dhabi Art Fair will implement strict preventive and sanitary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants and visitors. Details of these measures will be announced in due course.
