Abu Dhabi Department of Energy hosts workshop to strengthen Energy Strategy 2030

Abu Dhabi [UAE]May 23 (ANI/WAM): In light of its role as energy sector lawmaker and regulator Abu Dhabiresponsible for publishing the strategy, overseeing its implementation, and ensuring that sustainability and climate neutrality goals are met, Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (U.S. Department of Energy) organized the first update on Abu Dhabi Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalization Strategy 2030.
Government entities participating in the workshop included municipalities and transport ministries, Abu Dhabi City Municipality, Al Ain City Municipality, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Committee, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, Al Ain Distribution Company and Abu Dhabi energy services.
Workshop aims to highlight and discuss key developments and achievements of the United Nations U.S. Department of Energy Strategy launched in 2019 to achieve significant economic and environmental benefits Abu Dhabi. These include the security of energy supply and the sustainability of the emirate’s resources, in line with Abu Dhabivision and related national strategies.
this Abu Dhabi The Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalization Strategy (DSM) 2030 is a multi-stakeholder initiative comprising 9 programmes. It has the potential to save 22% energy and 32% water, equivalent to AED 8 billion, while avoiding the emission of more than 9 metric tons of CO2 – the equivalent of taking 1.5 million cars off the road for an entire year.
Representatives of the participating government entities were briefed on the main challenges in implementing the strategy and how they were addressed. Additionally, they learned how to leverage their expertise to keep up with the strategy development process.

The focus of the workshop was to assess the current and future state of the strategy and the opportunities identified, in addition to highlighting the extent to which the objectives had been achieved. The need for alignment with local and national strategies, a summary of challenges and improvements to key initiatives, and thoughts and evaluations of proposed solutions are discussed.
Ahmed Juma Al Falasi, Executive Director, Energy Efficiency Acting U.S. Department of Energysaid, “During the Year of Sustainability, we continue to work with all stakeholders to accelerate the pace of implementation of the DSM program, which will help achieve the goals of the National Demand Management Plan and United Arab Emirates Net zero 2050. “
He added: “Our strategy establishes an implementation framework that includes a series of plans, initiatives and enablers to help entities, companies and individuals rationalize water and electricity consumption and take effective measures to increase consumption efficiency. The updated strategy will help Through the collaboration of various stakeholders, plans and initiatives are developed to achieve their goals to improve sustainability and protect the emirate’s resources and make the best use of them.”
Ahmed expressed his sincere gratitude to the participating government entities for their hard work and active contribution to the success of the workshop, offering positive ideas and suggestions to develop strategies and ensure the achievement of their current and future goals.
Since launching the strategy in 2019, it has achieved several milestones, including reducing its 2030 water reduction target by approximately 50% and reducing its electricity reduction target by approximately 31% for the same year.This equates to a reduction of 3 million tonnes of CO2 emissions, in addition to the introduction of policies and regulations that have the potential to achieve these goals, such as energy efficiency policies for government buildings, and Abu Dhabi Measurement and Verification Protocol.
