Abu Dhabi’s Department of Energy (DOE) hosted its first Energy Efficiency Policy Symposium for 2023, which was attended by more than 70 participants from 42 state-owned entities and companies in the emirate.
Under Abu Dhabi’s Demand Side Management (DSM) and Energy Rationalization Strategy 2030, the DOE aims to reduce water consumption by 32 percent and electricity consumption by 22 percent by 2023, the ministry said in a press statement.
The workshop provided an overview of energy efficiency policies and the steps to implement them, showcased best practices for reducing consumption in buildings and facilities by implementing energy efficiency and water conservation measures and increasing sustainability awareness and culture.
Participants also exchanged experiences and discussed ways of cooperation with various stakeholders, experts and energy service companies.
Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Deputy Minister of Energy, Abu Dhabi, said: “In Year of Sustainability 2023, we will continue to strengthen our stance on energy efficiency, resource conservation and CO2 reduction, in line with our commitment to achieve net energy in the UAE .Zero 2050 and Abu Dhabi Vision 2030.”
He added: “Hosting such workshops will provide government entities and companies with the tools and knowledge to better manage their buildings and facilities to minimize their carbon footprint and help reduce costs and operations resulting from energy consumption. costs. It will also allow us to create a culture of energy and water efficiency and promote the principle of leading by example among state-owned entities and companies in Abu Dhabi.”
Abu Dhabi’s Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalization Strategy 2030, launched in 2019, helped save 6,183 GWh of electricity during 2019-2020, equivalent to a reduction of around 3.2 million tons of CO2 emissions.
