The Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development (DCD) has established strategic partnerships with professional academic institutions to assess and improve the quality of professional licensing procedures for social care in Abu Dhabi.

This is consistent with DCD’s efforts to optimise the social care sector and ensure the best quality of service by ensuring high competence of social care professionals.

Mubarak Salem Al Ameri, Executive Director, Social Licensing and Control, Department of Community Development (DCD), said: “This partnership is an important step towards standardising the social care sector by automating the assessment process for social care professionals, who hope than practice.”

“Furthermore, the DCD guarantees the competence of the professional experts involved in the assessment and the quality of the test content.”

The program will cover several social care categories designated by the DCD, such as psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers and counsellors.

“Social care professionals seeking licensure must meet specific qualifications and experience requirements set forth by DCD. DCD will assess applicants’ educational background and work experience before accepting each application, which may take up to three months,” Al Ameri added.

DCD has made it mandatory for all professionals providing social care services to be licensed by the department in 2020 to practice social care in the emirate.

The requirement covers five social care professions, including social workers, non-clinical psychologists, applied behavior analysts, psychotherapists, and counselors.

Al Ameri noted that the assessment process includes proficiency testing, verification of submitted documents and other requirements mentioned in the Regulations and Procedures Manual published by the DCD.

Social care professionals must also meet established educational and experience standards published on the official Ministry of Education website. The license is valid for two years from the date of issue and can be renewed for a similar period, subject to renewal and continuing professional education (CPE) requirements.
