Al Ain’s child has been awarded Dh200,000 in damages after he died in hospital due to medical negligence.

The Al Ain Court of Appeal upheld an earlier lower court ruling that directed the hospital and its two doctors treating the child to pay compensation to the family after being found guilty of medical negligence that caused the child’s death.

Parents have filed a lawsuit against two doctors and a hospital seeking Dh15 million for mental and material damages they suffered from the loss of a child who died through medical negligence, official court documents said.

The parents said their son was seriously ill and needed urgent medical attention, and died because the doctor was careless, lacked caution and did not follow the correct standard of care to treat the child.

The doctor and hospital deny any wrongdoing in treating the child.

However, a court-appointed medical committee confirmed that some doctors were medically negligent in treating children.

The court of first instance had earlier ordered the hospital and its two doctors to pay the child’s parents Dh90,000 after being found guilty of medical negligence.

Both the defendant and the parents challenged the Court of Appeal’s decision, which upheld the Court of Appeal’s decision.

However, an appeal court judge increased the family’s compensation to Dh200,000.

The court also ordered hospitals and doctors to pay the family’s legal costs.
