Abu Dhabi Energy Ministry explores opportunities to collaborate with Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy in new 5-year agreement

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) signed a five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy at an event at the headquarters of the Department of Energy in the UAE capital.

The agreement aims to explore opportunities for cooperation in capacity development and knowledge and information sharing, support joint projects and initiatives, and promote the development of bilateral scientific, technological, technical, administrative and commercial cooperation in the energy sector.This is in line with the commitment of both entities to cooperate in various areas of interest to achieve their common goals, diversify energy sources, improve energy efficiency and ensure access to reliable, sustainable and affordable energy.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Deputy Energy Minister HE Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi and Colombian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Arab Emirates Jaime Amin Hernández signed on behalf of Colombian Minister of Energy and Mines HE Diego Mesa and officials from both entities.

“The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy is committed to strengthening cooperation and building partnerships with relevant authorities around the world,” said His Excellency Al Rumaithi. “We believe that partnerships are a powerful way to achieve our goals, develop the energy sector, improve energy efficiency and meet the current and future needs and demands of local markets for reliable and sustainable energy and water supplies. This in turn supports Abu Zabi’s sustainable economic development plan.”

“We are delighted to start a new chapter in our cooperation with the Colombian Ministry of Mines and Energy,” he added. “The energy sector continues to need more expertise to adopt advanced energy technologies, upgrade the sector’s infrastructure, and provide it with trained professionals to achieve all of our strategic goals. We look forward to working with the Department of Energy , working together for the benefit of both parties and leveraging our combined experience to create a model for cooperation in the energy sector.”

Likewise, Minister Diego Mesa stated: “Colombia currently sees the energy transition as a means to achieve and guarantee a reliable, self-sufficient and resilient energy matrix. We recognize that this is a shared goal with the United Arab The establishment of a strategic alliance between the Ministry of Energy and the Ministry of Energy will allow us to complement and facilitate the rapid deployment of unconventional renewable energy, the development of low-carbon technologies, and the impact of climate change in both countries.”

Under the terms of the five-year agreement, the two entities commit to exchange research, knowledge and expertise, in addition to exploring opportunities to finance projects in the energy sector, including hydrogen production, use and storage; large-scale unconventional renewable energy; hydrogen Project development in energy, geothermal, onshore and offshore wind, solar, biomass and other clean energy technologies.

Also on the list are the promotion of sustainable transport of clean energy; technological development related to advanced energy measurement and monitoring systems; access to energy services, including renewable energy solutions; promotion of foreign investment in the energy sector; energy efficiency and demand response; and Development of technologies related to carbon capture and storage, and finally the promotion of energy storage technologies.

In addition, the two sides agreed to facilitate mutual visits of experts from both sides to follow up on joint activities. They will also explore opportunities for joint projects and research missions to facilitate their design, financing and execution, and to engage the private sector in both countries in energy infrastructure projects for clean energy, as well as energy infrastructure projects with hydrogen, geothermal, onshore and offshore wind, solar, solar, Biomass and other clean energy.
