The Abu Dhabi Energy Ministry is negotiating with Israel to promote cooperation in clean and renewable energy.
Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Belajer Al Rumaithi, Deputy Minister of Energy, in a discussion with Amir Hayek, Ambassador of Israel, stressed the importance of building a bridge of cooperation in various energy sectors, especially water, electricity, wastewater treatment and district cooling to the UAE.
He noted that the energy sector holds many opportunities of mutual interest.
These will open up new horizons for cooperation between the two countries in numerous fields, including renewable energy, desalination technologies such as reverse osmosis, and low-carbon hydrogen production, transportation and storage, demand-side management and advanced irrigation. In addition to focusing on modern technologies outside of innovation.
The DOE’s scope of work and the areas that DOE seeks to develop through its strategic initiatives were presented to the ambassadors.
U.S. Department of Energy representatives showcased the future prospects of Abu Dhabi’s hydropower sector and the growing reliance on clean energy in the UAE capital’s energy mix.
Delegates also showcased the emirate’s water production cycle, as well as the policy and regulatory framework for the hydrogen industry that the U.S. Department of Energy is currently developing in partnership with a number of public and private entities.
The meeting was an opportunity to review some proposals for areas of future cooperation between the sector and the relevant Israeli authorities.
Al Rumaithi said that Abu Dhabi’s energy sector has made great strides in diversifying its energy mix over the past decade, particularly with the opening of the Shams 1 Concentrated Solar Plant, the Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Plant and the first The reactor at the Barakah nuclear power plant after the operation of a solar power plant.
He added that clean energy and water offer unlimited opportunities for the two countries to work together to help them achieve a carbon-neutral future.
Hayek pointed out that Israel looks forward to strengthening cooperation with the UAE in various fields, mainly in the energy sector.
“Both countries can contribute to combating climate change, securing energy supplies and reducing reliance on energy sources that contribute to harmful carbon emissions,” he added.
