A new fully autonomous driverless minibus will be launched in Abu Dhabi next month to coincide with the F1 Grand Prix. This minibus model, operated by Txai, was on display at Gitex Global’s Abu Dhabi government booth.

“We have integrated a lot of digital maps, technologies, radar, lidar and cameras to make this project possible,” said Sultan al Menhali, project manager for transport systems at the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC).

The completely free bus seats seven and accommodates four more standing passengers. It will stop at nine locations on Yas Island, including the W Hotel, Yas Water World, Yas Marina Circuit and Ferrari World. A wheeled tram is also scheduled to start operating on Yas Island later this year.

Txai is the region’s first driverless taxi service, equipped with high-tech navigation tools to transport passengers between nine stops.

According to Sultan, the bus was developed based on the company’s experience driving a robot taxi, which has been driving around Yas Island for almost a year. “The taxis are driverless, but we have a security officer on duty at all times,” he said. “We have not had a single incident in the past year, so we are confident that the bus will be seamlessly integrated into Yas Island’s current conditions. traffic conditions.”

It was in March of this year that ITC announced that it had successfully completed the first phase of a driverless taxi pilot service on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. In the first phase, the service registered more than 16,000 kilometers and more than 2,700 passenger bookings. A smart app can be used to say hello.

According to officials, the ITC is responsible for building the necessary infrastructure for the use of autonomous vehicles within the transportation network.
