Motorists must avoid speeding at all times and must not use handheld devices while driving. Police also urged residents to pay attention to road conditions and keep a sufficient distance from other vehicles.
Due to the heavy traffic, especially near the main venue for the New Year’s Eve fireworks display, motorists must obey traffic laws to ensure their own safety and the safety of all other road users.
The Police also severely cracked down on reckless driving, including noisy driving, to maintain public order.
Brigadier General Nasser Suleiman Al Maskari, Director of Operations at the Central Operations Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, said state-of-the-art technology will be used to support traffic police that day. He also urged residents to contact the authorities at all times.
In order to facilitate smooth traffic in Abu Dhabi City, the Police have issued a heavy vehicle traffic order from 7am on Saturday, December 31, 2022 until 7am on Sunday, January 1, 2023. Heavy vehicles will not be allowed to pass during this period. Allowed to enter Abu Dhabi Island, or to and from the four bridges connecting Abu Dhabi Island to the mainland – Al Maqta Bridge, Musaffah Bridge, Sheikh Zayed Bridge and Sheikh Khalifa Bridge. Only heavy vehicles providing logistical and support services will be allowed, police said.
Meanwhile, public car parks will remain free on New Year’s Day to coincide with Abu Dhabi’s designated free parking days. Darb tolls are also not charged throughout the day as it is free in Abu Dhabi on Sundays.
