The Abu Dhabi Sewage Services Company (ADSSC) said it has signed an exclusive agreement with Uzsuvtaminot, a key player in Uzbekistan’s improved water management, to develop a sewage treatment plant in the country’s capital, Tashkent.
The facility has an estimated treatment capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters per day, enough to serve more than 2.3 million people, and will be the largest wastewater treatment plant in the country when completed.
According to ADSSC, the new WWTPs will replace three existing WWTPs at Boszu, Salar and Bektimir, which have a daily treatment capacity of 1.5 million cubic meters.
When completed, the plant will serve approximately 2.3 million people living in a 435-square-kilometer area in and around Tashkent, and will create a large number of jobs for the local community.
Following the signing of the agreement with Sakhib Saifnazarov, the managing director and CEO of the agreement, Ahmed Al Shamsi, said that the agreement aims to develop a centralized sewage treatment plant to promote health and well-being, improve quality of life, and in economic reform of Tashkent Keep up with population growth. He added that under its regulations, ADSSC and its partners will undertake the financing, construction and operation of the plant, while Uzsuvtaminot JSC will be responsible for providing land, sewage and power facilities.
Saifnazarov said the signing of the landmark MoA demonstrates the UAE and Uzbekistan’s shared goal of strengthening bilateral cooperation in various fields.
“This project is in line with Uzsuvtaminot’s efforts to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between UAE national entities and their international counterparts to support the global transition to a greener and more sustainable development model,” he said.
According to him, the signing marks an important milestone for ADSSC, which continues to seek to leverage its strong track record in asset development and project management expertise to become the Abu Dhabi-based global major player in providing integrated wastewater management , whose commitment lies in supporting global, regional and local visions of sustainable development.
In addition to ADSSC, a number of UAE-based entities have also taken a keen interest in participating in the Uzbek government’s efforts to modernize and diversify the economy, given the outstanding relationship connecting the two peoples.
