Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi paid tribute to three outstanding private school teachers on the occasion of the international celebration of World Teachers’ Day on 5 October.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (Adek), which oversees private and charter schools in the emirate, held a surprise awards ceremony for three educators from each school. The winners of the World Teachers’ Day Awards were selected from a series of nominations from schools including Greeshma Rajesh Anil Kumar, computer science teacher at the Mayoor Private School, Daniel Stephen Emery and Suneela Bukhari Salman Chaudhry, art teachers at The British School Al Khubairat, English teacher at Islamic English School in Abu Dhabi.

Adek honors teachers for their dedication and contribution to the profession, a tradition now in its fourth year. The agency said it had received more than 190 nominations this year, reflecting increased participation in the initiative since 2019.

At each school’s surprise awards ceremony, ADEK representatives joined school leaders and colleagues as well as students to celebrate the outstanding work of the award-winning teachers over the past year. They are gifts with prizes and trophies and are congratulated in student letters of recommendation.

“This has been a great day for me. I am very happy and proud of this recognition that was not expected today. I would like to thank our Headteacher and all my colleagues who have given me so much in my teaching Great support. My advice to young teachers is to believe in yourself and in your own excellence; if I can earn that recognition, so can anyone else. On this World Teacher’s Day, best wishes to all teachers; you are shaping the next generation of future world leaders,” Anil Kumar said after receiving the honor.

Emery was surprised by the recognition.

“I am delighted and shocked as this is the first time I have received such recognition. While I am fortunate to have my name on this honour, I believe I only represent our school culture and work with me so this applies to everyone in our school. My advice to budding teachers is to love what you do and be patient and always remember that being a teacher is a challenging but enjoyable and rewarding journey ,”He says.

Chaudhry, on the other hand, advises educators to make friends with students.

“I am thrilled and overwhelmed by this surprise, but I am honored to be selected as one of the award-winning teachers for this initiative. I thank Ala and our principal who has been a true teacher throughout my time at the school A mentor and source of support. Teaching is not just a profession, it’s a passion of the heart; it’s not about lecturing, it’s about the ability to read students’ thoughts and feelings. My advice to all teachers is to have your students before teaching them Be willing to learn, be their friend, know what they think, and only then can you be a successful teacher,” she said.
