ADGA said in a statement that the training was aimed at enhancing understanding of EU institutions. Participants accordingly participated in masterclasses, interactive exercises and simulations on EU decision-making processes and foreign policy essentials, as well as on trade and climate negotiations. They also heard from European professional trainers on building trust and consensus and power dynamics within the EU.
“We are delighted to co-organise this training programme, which demonstrates our shared commitment to further developing the EU’s strategic partnership with the Gulf region. At a time of major global challenges, EU and GCC countries will benefit from stronger diplomacy relationship. We believe this training will increase mutual understanding and look forward to working closely with our UAE and Kuwaiti partners,” said Andrea Matteo Fontana, EU Ambassador to the UAE.
On 6 October, the closing discussion on the future of the EU discussed key current EU priorities and challenges, including strategic partnerships, security, green and digital transformation, EU enlargement and continued integration. Participants are then awarded a certificate of completion of the training.
In May 2022, the EU launched the “Joint Communication on Strategic Partnership with the Gulf Region”, which aims to expand and deepen the EU’s cooperation with the Gulf Cooperation Council and its member states. The newsletter makes specific recommendations for strengthening cooperation on energy, green transition and climate change, trade and economic diversification, regional stability and global security, and humanitarian and development challenges. It also seeks to strengthen human connections.
