Abu Dhabi inaugurates new bridge linking Baniyas East, Baniyas West

Abu Dhabi: Abu Dhabi now has a new bridge linking Baniyas East and Baniyas West.

The new bridge is part of the Abu Dhabi-Al Ain highway (E22) and will reduce travel time between the two suburbs from 11 minutes to just 3 minutes. It was inaugurated today by the Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa.

In a statement, the emirate’s municipal regulator, the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), said the bridge can accommodate up to 1,400 vehicles per hour on the E22 and 1,100 between the two suburbs.

The project includes the construction of the upper intersection connecting Baniyas East and Baniyas West and associated roads, the transformation of the current Baniyas East roundabout into a signalized intersection, and the construction of pedestrian ramps. It also involves the demolition of existing pedestrian tunnels, water and communication lines, transport and protection of irrigation and sewage pipes, and protection of existing street lighting and electricity distribution networks.

“The new bridge marks a major milestone for Abu Dhabi, connecting communities and providing better accessibility for residents and visitors. Its innovative design and state-of-the-art features demonstrate Abu Dhabi’s commitment to modernity and progress , while strengthening the city’s infrastructure and boosting economic growth,” said Dr Salem Khalfan Al Kaabi, Director of Operational Affairs, DMT.

Saif Badr Al Qubaisi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Municipality, confirmed that the new bridge is an important part of the municipality’s strategic plan to strengthen the city’s infrastructure and accommodate expected growth in population and road users. It demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to delivering sustainable services and meeting community expectations. As such, the bridge is intended to boost economic growth and improve traffic flow in East and West Baniyas and other nearby areas.

In addition to its main objectives, the project includes the construction of the main bridge with concrete slabs and inner and outer pillars, the construction of two bridges consisting of a sea slab, pillars and foundations, as well as the construction of a CCTV system, traffic lights, pedestrian signs, fiber optic cables. The developer must also ensure connectivity to the Abu Dhabi Traffic Management Centre, as well as the implementation of natural cosmetics and sanitation facilities. and high-speed camera transmission.

210 energy-saving light poles are used for the interchange, and the asphalt area of ​​the project is 195,580 square meters. The bridge is a strategic infrastructure project that aims to provide world-class infrastructure, enhance community welfare, and create a business-friendly environment, ensuring the best possible quality of life for residents and visitors to the emirate.

In February, Abu Dhabi opened another bridge linking the capital’s three islands. The 11-kilometer bridge project, which currently allows traffic between Al Reem Island, Umm Yifenah Island and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Street, will eventually connect Al Reem Island to Al Saadiyat Island.
